Manager of Network Engineering

Looking for a manager that was hands on and now manages the network engineering team.

 The Manager of Network Engineering will lead a team responsible for the day-to-day support of our local and remote networks, VPN connections, and associated systems and processes. Support duties include new installations, troubleshooting, and re-configuration of switches, routers, firewalls, f-5 load balancing and related devices. The Manager of Network Engineering should possess a strong understanding of networking concepts coupled with a passion for automation, as this position will be responsible for driving and producing intelligent, scalable, and maintainable network automation solutions across our network infrastructure.

In addition, the Manager of Network Engineering will participate in management of new projects to grow and improve our systems and networks. Projects may include routing and switching infrastructure (wired and wireless).

Responsibilities:

    Oversee network engineering team
    Actively coach, mentor and teach others as well as use influence, expertise to support other teams
    Lead operational and strategic activities in our dynamic IT environment
    Lead project planning and provide cross-functional technical leadership
    Design and implement a scalable, efficient, and cost-effective network automation framework
    Drive process improvements in automated turn-up and service delivery
    Build and improve upon documentation, playbooks, and training for the Network Engineering team
    Develop solutions that are reusable and can be broadly applied to common network problems
    Constantly monitor and analyze the network environment to identify opportunities to introduce efficiencies by way of automation
    Ensure accountability for detail-orientation to deliver well-tested, secure, interoperable, reproducible technologies that support company vision and strategy
    Maintain effective relationships with all levels of company management, as well as with internal and external customers
    Establish and monitor key performance metrics to ensure compliance of established standards, processes and procedures
 

Requirements:

    Managerial experience, ideally overseeing a team of network engineers
    Experience with CCIE, CCNP, AWS Certified Advanced Networking
    Experience with and understanding of foundational network concepts such as the OSI Model, TCP/IP, OSPF, IPsec, NAT and SNMP protocols
    Expert-level proficiency with Cisco Routing, Load Balancing, Switching and Firewalls
    Advanced knowledge of high availability data center design and operations
    Advanced knowledge of industry standard networking concepts, practices, procedures, and protocols
    Knowledge of wireless network design and troubleshooting
    Advanced knowledge of Solarwinds (NPM, NCP, IPAM, NTA, NTM and SAM)
    Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills that result in conclusive recommendations / decisions
    Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, integrity and accountability
    Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
    Ability to be detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and time-management skills
    Ability to have a flexible schedule to accommodate after-hours response to incident-related escalations when necessary
