Assistant Project Manager – Commercial Mechanical Contractor

A leading commercial mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities in the Maryland & Washington D.C area is continuing to grow and is seeking to add a motivated Assistant Project Manager to support the project delivery team. Our client takes pride in delivering projects that meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with Project Managers to assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial mechanical projects. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual eager to develop their project management skills in the mechanical contracting industry.
Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers in all phases of project delivery, from pre-construction through closeout.
- Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, cost tracking, and reporting.
- Review submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation.
- Coordinate with field supervisors, foremen, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure smooth project execution.
- Monitor material procurement and delivery schedules.
- Attend project meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and compliance with company standards.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation.
- Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, warranty documents, and as-built drawings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- 1–3 years of experience in mechanical construction, mechanical contracting, or a related field.
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar project management software a plus.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Team-oriented with a willingness to learn and grow into a Project Manager role.
