Commissioning Engineer – HVAC & Building Automation
$85,000 to $115,000 + Vehicle | Northeastern United States
Join a performance contracting firm delivering high-efficiency HVAC, mechanical, and building automation solutions across commercial, healthcare, and institutional facilities. This role is responsible for commissioning complex mechanical and control systems to ensure compliance with project specifications and targeted energy performance outcomes.
Responsibilities
Lead commissioning and functional performance testing of HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, humidifiers, VAV boxes, and air handling units.
Verify installation and operation of control sequences across BAS/BMS platforms utilizing DDC controls.
Coordinate with mechanical contractors, controls technicians, and project managers to identify and resolve system performance deficiencies.
Execute equipment startup procedures, document test results, and produce comprehensive commissioning reports.
Support energy efficiency objectives through system optimization, fault detection, and implementation of corrective actions.
Key Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience commissioning HVAC equipment and control systems in commercial or institutional environments.
Working knowledge of chillers, boilers, humidifiers, cooling towers, pumps, duct systems, and terminal units.
Hands-on experience with BAS/BMS platforms and familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, and DDC control systems.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and commissioning-related software tools.
Certifications such as BCxA, CxA, PE, or LEED AP are preferred.
