JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary
- Lead the development of roadway contract documents - plans, specifications and estimates, specifically:
- Roadway plans, profiles, typical sections and grading
- Traffic control design
- Cost estimating
- State DOT and local government experience required (VDOT experience preferred)
Planning studies
- Design or prepare concept road plans and alternatives analysis for new transportation systems or retrofits to existing systems
- Plan alteration and modification of existing transportation systems to improve safety or function
- Attend meetings with clients
- Assist with contract bidding, negotiation and administration
- Coordinate with contractors, utility companies and government agencies
- Take notes and prepare meeting minutes
Technical reports
- Prepare alternatives analyses reports for concept roadway improvements.
- Lead in report preparation
- Required Education and Experience:
- Four (4) to Ten (10) years of experience in transportation/roadway design
- MicroStation V8i, Geopak/OpenRoads, and/or AutoCAD (including Civil 3D) skills
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
- PE license in Virginia, or ability to obtain within six months
Preferred Education and Experience:
- MS in Civil Engineering desirable
- VDOT Advanced Work Zone Traffic Control certification
- ProjectWise
