Lead Electrical Engineer – Switchgear & Power Distribution

A growing manufacturer of power distribution and critical infrastructure equipment is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership for the design, development, and execution of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems. This individual will serve as a senior engineering resource, leading complex projects, mentoring engineers and designers, and driving innovation across electrical product lines.

This is a highly visible role offering significant involvement in customer-facing engineering, product development, manufacturing support, and strategic technical decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead the development of complete electrical design packages including schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, one-line diagrams, and bills of materials.

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for low- and medium-voltage switchgear, control systems, and power distribution equipment.

  • Review and approve engineering designs to ensure compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements.

  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and professional development support to engineers and designers.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering processes, standards, tools, and documentation.

Engineering & Project Execution

  • Design and oversee low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems, motor control centers, controls integration, and protection schemes.

  • Ensure compliance with IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, UL, and customer-specific standards.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, field service, project management, and quality teams to resolve technical challenges and improve product performance.

  • Support factory acceptance testing, production troubleshooting, and customer witness testing.

  • Evaluate project specifications, one-line diagrams, and technical requirements to develop effective engineering solutions.

  • Partner with estimating teams to support equipment sizing, system configuration, and project feasibility assessments.

Customer & Product Development

  • Lead technical discussions with customers, vendors, consultants, and project stakeholders.

  • Support proposal development and provide engineering expertise during project planning phases.

  • Research emerging technologies and evaluate new products, components, and design methodologies.

  • Participate in new product development and strategic engineering initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience with switchgear, power distribution, or related electrical equipment.

  • Experience leading electrical design efforts and mentoring junior engineering staff.

  • Strong understanding of low- and medium-voltage power systems, protective relays, generator controls, short-circuit studies, coordination studies, and arc flash mitigation.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Promis-e, and related electrical design software.

  • Ability to interpret customer specifications, one-line diagrams, and complex electrical requirements.

  • Extensive knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and UL standards.

  • Experience supporting industrial, marine, energy, oil & gas, utility, or mission-critical infrastructure projects preferred.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Experience with medium-voltage switchgear and protection systems.

  • Background in mission-critical power, utility infrastructure, industrial automation, or power generation systems.

Work Environment

  • Office-based engineering environment with frequent interaction on the manufacturing floor.

  • Hands-on involvement in production support, testing, and project execution.

  • Regional travel required to support customers, testing, and project activities.

  • Opportunity to lead high-impact projects supporting critical infrastructure and power distribution systems.
