Senior Mechanical Engineer – Job Description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading the design, analysis, and lifecycle management of complex mechanical and thermal-fluid systems in highly regulated, reliability-driven environments. This role oversees system architecture development, performs advanced engineering analysis, and supports projects from initial requirements and conceptual design through fabrication, testing, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of mechanical systems including pressure vessels, rotating equipment, heat exchangers, piping systems, and thermal-fluid components.
- Perform structural, thermal, and fluid flow analysis using engineering tools such as ANSYS, CFD, and hydraulic modeling software to validate system performance.
- Conduct steady-state and transient thermal and hydraulic calculations to ensure systems meet performance and safety requirements.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation including calculation packages, design basis reports, technical specifications, and fabrication drawings.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry codes and standards such as ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, B31.3, API, and other regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, civil, and controls engineers to integrate mechanical systems into larger projects.
- Support procurement and vendor management by preparing technical specifications, reviewing vendor submittals, and verifying equipment compliance.
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and root cause investigations to improve system reliability and safety.
- Manage engineering change control and configuration management to maintain design integrity and traceability.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and support manufacturing, installation, and commissioning activities.
