Electrical Controls Engineer
Position Overview
A growing engineering and automation solutions provider is seeking a Controls Engineer to support industrial automation and control system integration projects. This role involves control system design, control panel development, PLC programming, instrumentation support, system testing, and start-up assistance across multiple industries.
The position includes both technical engineering responsibilities and project leadership opportunities, with involvement in manufacturing production systems and building automation environments.
Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement control system hardware and software to meet process and operational requirements.

Create electrical schematics, control system configurations, and panel layouts using AutoCAD or similar design tools.

Develop Sequence of Operations documentation outlining process control strategies.

Lead design reviews with customers to validate and approve system designs.

Perform system checkout, commissioning, and start-up activities at customer sites.

Prepare final system documentation and provide operational training to end users.

Support automation and control system integration projects across diverse industries, including manufacturing and facility automation environments.

Serve as a technical lead on projects, mentoring junior engineers and technicians.

Manage smaller automation projects, including:

Developing and executing project implementation plans

Assigning tasks to meet deadlines

Coordinating scope and deliverables with project teams and customers

Developing project schedules and tracking progress

Managing procurement and subcontractor activities
-
Supporting cost tracking and change order development

Minimum Qualifications
Education
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Electrical Engineering preferred).
Experience
-
2+ years of experience in industrial automation or control systems engineering.
-
Strong understanding of control system architecture, instrumentation, and logic programming.
-
Experience with SCADA platforms (such as Rockwell, Inductive Automation, or AVEVA Wonderware).
-
Experience with PLC platforms including Allen-Bradley and Siemens.
-
Familiarity with AutoCAD for control system design.
-
Additional experience with distributed control systems, robotics, or machine vision technologies is a plus.

Experience supporting automation in semiconductor, energy storage, electric vehicle, or data center environments preferred.

Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, subcontractors, and project teams.
-
Ability to travel up to approximately 30%.
Physical Requirements

Ability to perform site-based work including climbing, lifting, driving, equipment access, and use of hand tools.

Visual acuity, color recognition, hearing, and clear verbal communication required for technical work and safety compliance.
