Senior Automation and Controls Engineer
Automation and Controls Engineer will develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI Operator Interface programs. This position is responsible for owning all software aspects of various automated machinery projects, from small R&D to large scale production equipment. These projects are interdisciplinary, and the engineer will be required to work with other members of the team to deliver an integrated and functional solution.
Responsibilities:
Develop, test, and integrate software solutions related to custom automation, machine vision, laser control, and data collection and management
Keep current with new technology, engineering methods, and standards within the automation industry
Manage engineering projects as assigned and coordinate project design with other engineering disciplines
Coordinate with customers on functional and user interface requirements (URS, MES integration, etc.)
Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding project status, resource requirements, and potential obstacles to success
Support and assist the production team during debug and commissioning of equipment
Review and assist in preparation of Operation & Maintenance Manuals and computer system validation documentation
Qualifications:
Experience in leading the design, programming, operation and troubleshooting in industrial automation settings
Experience with specification and programming of Rockwell Automation - Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, CompactLogix) PLC’s
Experience in HMI Operator Interface/SCADA programming (Ignition, InTouch, iFix, Cimplicity, FactoryTalk View, WinCC, or custom written applications)
Programming languages (VB.NET preferred)
Proficiency in configuring, tuning, and programming servo-based motion control systems
Understanding of industrial communication protocols (RS232, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, OPC)
Qualifications considered a plus:
Experience with machine Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence, etc.)
Knowledge of .NET and COM/ActiveX environments and SDK/APIs implementation
Experience with SQL and database management
Understanding of IT network infrastructure and servers used to connect and manage automated systems
Understanding of Active Directory and Domain Authentication
Familiarity with industrial Data Historian systems (OSI Pi, FactoryTalk Historian, Kepware, etc.)
Knowledge of pharmaceutical process equipment automation and electronic batch records
Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry standards for batch control systems, 21 CFR Part 11/Annex 11, and GAMP
Key words - Rockwell Automation Allen Bradley PLC’s, RSLogix 5000/500/5, Studio, Factory Talk, Wonderware System Platform, PanelView Plus. SCADA and HMI packages (Intellution, and Wonderware). System Integration, PLC’s, HMI’s. Siemens SIMATIC, S7 PLC Systems, C#, .NET, Visual Basic, Servo Controls, Proximity and Photo Sensors. AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical.
BS Engineering Degree, Associates Degree, and/or other technical degree or working experience. 5 plus years’ Industrial manufacturing and/or OEM experience. Experience with packaging machinery equipment, VFFS equipment is a plus. Similar industry experience - packaging, consumer products, food & beverage, cGMP, industrial process equipment, OEM, etc.

Salary $85,000 - $135,000
