SENIOR CHEMIST

New Jersey manufacturer of cosmetic and personal care products is looking for a Senior Chemist to join their R&D team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops new and/or improves product formulas.
Participates in technology transfer from pilot scale to full production.
Develops and maintains required documentation.
Keeps manager up-to-date of project progress, costing and results.
Strengthens R&D department by contributing new innovative ideas.
Stays informed with current trends, practices, and regulatory changes that would impact products and packaging.
Actively participates in cross functional project teams.
Provides technical direction to other chemists as needed
Insures confidential procedures are followed.
Develops, coordinates and enforces systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards.
Maintains quality service by enforcing quality and customer service standards.
Resolves quality and customer service problems.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, stays current with state-of-the-art practices, and participates in professional societies.
Allocates use of available resources.
Monitors and assists staff with projects.
Communicate product/projects updates to clients.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry.
7-10 years of experience in the cosmetic or personal care industry.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
Comprehensive knowledge of developing personal care products.
Broad understanding of physical and chemical properties of chemicals, OSHA / FDA / cGMP / GLP requirements.
Must be familiar with Research and Development instruments.
Customer service oriented.
Must have good leadership skills including; delegating tasks/responsibilities, training employees, problem solving, etc.
Must be good at making decisions.
Knowledge of skin care industry.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
PC literate in various databases.
Detail-oriented.
Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Must work well with others or alone, under minimal supervision
Must perform well under pressure and deadlines
