Network Systems Engineer
The Network Systems Engineer is accountable for the following functions:
Working with the Network Engineering team to design and provision new servers as needed;
Performing on-going capacity analysis on carrier level infrastructure and make recommendations when relevant upgrades are needed;
Securing, documenting and employing backup policies for all servers pre and post deployment;
Planning, testing, and implementing disaster recovery policies and procedures;
Administering, supporting, and maintaining infrastructure components and develop clear procedures to guide the resolution process;
Maintaining physical data center environments including, racking and cabling servers, diagnosing faults and replacing hardware;
Creating and updating diagrams, documentation and other information required to support ongoing monitoring, maintenance and repair of services;
Designing and implementing perimeter and data security solutions including firewalls, intrusion detection / prevention, VPNs, remote access and monitoring tools;
Researching industry trends in products and services to make informed recommendations based on business or operational requirements;
Assisting with ongoing internal training while ensuring that proper troubleshooting steps are followed prior to escalation;
Working with third party service providers to resolve operational issues;
Designing, deploying and maintaining highly-available server environments utilizing VMware clusters, KVM virtualization, SAN technologies, dedicated hardware and enterprise networking equipment;
Proficiency with at least command line tools and programming languages for automation
(Python, Bash, Powershell, etc.).
Implementing services including: LAMP stack, DNS, SNMP, FTP, TFTP, NTP, TACACS+, RADIUS, syslog, NFS, and LDAP;
Ensuring changes requested by the customer during implementation are given to sales and addendums signed before any services are implemented;
Adhering to the Company’s policies and procedures, including the EEO guidelines and safety at all times;
Performing any miscellaneous departmental duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Associates Degree in Computer Science, Engineering; or equivalent training and experience – required
5 years of practical systems/server engineering technical experience -required
Maintain relevant Systems Administration certification such as VMware or Linux certifications – preferred
VMware certified professional or MCSE certified -preferred
Technical Competency Requirements
Experience with virtual and physical Linux Servers, VMware clusters, KVM virtualization – required
Understand networking concepts such as TCP/IP, IPV4, IPV6 – required
Understand Network Security concepts, including firewall, IPS, Single Sign-On, 802.1x, VPN, encryption/PKI, as well as other network security risks and compensating controls – required
Understand networking concepts such as VoIP, QOS, VLANS, Trunking, IP Helpers, SIP, RTP, BGP and OSPF - preferred
Experience with SAN Technologies, Enterprise/Carrier class networking equipment from various manufacturers - preferred
Experience with services including LAMP stack, DNS, SNMP, FTP, TFTP, NTP, TACACS+, RADIUS, syslog, NFS, Samba, VoIP - preferred
