Materials Engineer
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The materials engineer is responsible for managing the production and new process development in the reprocessing operation. The reprocessing operation includes chemical washing and re-pelletizing of plastic waste to be used in Roplasts polyethylene blown film products. In this role you will apply technical principles, techniques, theories, and concepts for all materials and processes to insure Roplast meets the end users specifications. On a daily basis, you will work with your team to improve and develop processes that move Roplast forward with respect to increasing the use of recycled materials in our products. This is a hands on process engineering role where your creativity and knowledge will directly be reflected in the performance of the department and company.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Observe manufacturing processes, collect, correlate data and implement process improvements to focus on throughout and quality.
- Define engineering specifications and process documentation used in the manufacturing process.
- Provide daily production leadership over a 2 shift operation to insure safety, volume, and quality.
- Developing processes and recipes for new materials so the pellets produced can be used in down stream operations. Take ownership of the repro technology and own it.
- Provide technical leadership and become the Roplast reprocessing expert for producing PE pellets from PIR and PCR materials.
- Perform experiments as required to understand how the reprocess materials effect the final product configuration and performance. This will require overlap with the other manufacturing departments.
- Work with equipment suppliers to define appropriate equipment requirements and performance standards for current and future products.
- Work with raw material suppliers to evaluate new technologies.
- Supervise the materials lab where materials evaluations are made on incoming materials and production samples.
- Recommend methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing work flow, relocating work stations and equipment, and purchase of equipment.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- BS in Engineering, Materials or Chemical
- 5+ years experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with Solidworks
- Plastics experience preferred
- Experience operating analytical lab equipment
