Principal  Mechanical Design Engineer –  Facility/HVAC/Plumbing – Washington, DC

 We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience in facility design and in the preparation of contract documents. The mechanical engineer will perform a variety of engineering tasks by applying standard engineering techniques and analyses within their discipline. Mechanical engineers at this level have experience an increasing proficiency in the utilization of engineering theories and practices, Company procedures, and quality standards. Typical project assignments are larger in scope and involve engineering calculations, specification development, report generation, BIM (building information modeling), CAE (computer aided engineering), and/or CAD (computer aided design) applications. Work will involve engineering and design of both new facilities and rehabilitating existing facilities.

Responsibilities :

  • Design and specification of a wide variety of mechanical systems is preferred. Mechanical systems should include one or more of the following: Plumbing and fire protection systems include one or more of the following: domestic water distribution, storm and sanitary systems, pumping, condensate disposal, and other related systems.
  • Completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, reports, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes.
  • Prepares standard engineering calculations, material quality takeoffs, estimates, and other associated design documentation
  • Performs site surveys of existing facilities for as-build generation, rehabilitation designs, and for construction support of new facilities. Adherence to a Zero-Incident safety goal is expected.
  • Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Prepares material/equipment specifications and purchase requisitions; reviews supplier data; witnesses shop tests, assists with assessing supplier manufacturing capabilities.
  • Reviews small and portions of larger supplier drawing submittals and assists in performing technical bid analyses.
  • Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.
  • Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Job Requirements

Requirements :

  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering and 8-10 years of related work experience with commercial or industrial plumbing systems design.

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with management, client, and other stakeholders. Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or other software packages typically associated with engineering is beneficial.
