Job Description
Summary: To plan, coordinate and manage all activities related to the purchasing and receipt of assigned items and assist with the purchase of other items as needed. The position interfaces with Sales, Marketing, Production, QA, Product Development, Accounting, Logistics and Senior Management.
This position requires the incumbent to utilize a diverse range of skills and experience in the overall support of company operations and requires a high degree of responsibilities. The Purchasing Manager works closely with the management team to ensure and improve the organization’s performance, productivity, efficiency, and profitability through effective supply chain methods and strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead continuous improvement through value stream mapping, analysis of supply chain processes and procedures to support client lead time requirements and achieve organizational goals, monitor results and implement best practices as applicable
- Utilize financial data to improve financial performance and profitability by effectively managing and controlling inventory and implementing appropriate supply chain strategies
- Coordinate with demand planning to ensure proper quantities are purchased to achieve strategic inventory and service level objectives
- Execute supplier cost and inventory reduction initiatives
- Audit inventory accuracy and control
- Implement and maintain a robust price review process that includes monitoring purchase costs in relation to standard cost and industry costs.
- Provide learning and development opportunities to promote growth and build expertise
- Set expectations and provide feedback to effectively evaluate performance
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management or related field
- 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing and/or purchasing management
- Strong aptitude to solve problems and improve process
- Strong ability to negotiate and resolve conflict
- Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and communication skills
- Highly professional and courteous
- Familiar with general accounting practices
- Demonstrate the ability to perform effective short term and long range planning
- Ability to travel when necessary
- Knowledge of basic production and inventory control theories and practices
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and on cross-functional teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
