HVAC TECHNICIAN III

Large Mechanical Contractor / Building Automation Energy provider in MD/DC area seeks experienced HVAC TECHNICIAN III with direct experience installing, repairing and maintaining a variety of equipment including:  air conditioning, motors, heaters, pumps, compressors, furnaces, boilers, chillers, refrigeration, intake and exhaust fans, heat pumps, humidifiers, split systems and packed units.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Communicates with office for scheduled jobs after the completion of each job and at the end of each work day.
• During and/or at the end of each task complete all company provided forms to the fullest extent possible.
• Responsible for time management of jobs scheduled each day.
• Check in with client at the beginning and end of each visit.
• Obtain client signature on company provided e-mobile device where applicable.
• Upon completion of each task record time spent at each job on the weekly time sheet.
• Close out work orders at the end of each day/week for processing.
• Ensure all materials used for each task are listed properly on the company provided e-mobile device.
• Assist on job sites with other team members as needed.
• Respond to all office communications in a timely manner.
• Check in as needed to ensure office dispatcher and/or supervisor are aware of your status.
• Identify pull through work and work with team to secure.
• Call in repairs to the estimator or supervisor and provide the necessary info needed to quote the repair.
• Consult supervisor or dispatcher in times of uncertainty.
• Must ensure a safe work environment at all times and use proper safety equipment.
• Must be able to build client confidence in company.
• Provide information to management on training needs and courses of interest.
• Responsible for the daily preparation of the parts and tools for each day’s activities.
• Complete tasks in a timely manner.
• Coordinate with dispatcher for the use of company tools and ensure they are returned to the office in a timely manner.
• Maintain company tools in a professional manner.
• Must maintain all safety equipment at all times.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
• Fully understands and has mastered the heating cycle to include: identifying components in heating system, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the heating system using a gas pressure test and other devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot and repair. Fully understands and has mastered the theory of combustion and how it relates to combustible fuels such as gas and oil. Must be able to perform a combustion analysis on all combustible heating systems and analyze results.
• Fully understands and has mastered electron theory, how electricity travels, AC and DC currents, single phase and three phase circuits, and series and parallel circuits. Ability to read advanced wiring diagrams. Knowledge of Ohms Law. Ability to use multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values. Must be able to troubleshoot advanced electrical circuits.
• Fully understands and has mastered the fundamentals of temperature and humidity measurement and control in air conditioning units. Understands the process of treating air so as to simultaneously control its temperature, humidity, cleanliness and distribution. Ability to use a psychometric chart to determine the results of mixing air having various properties.
• Fully understands and has mastered all types of HVAC systems and how each component within the system operates in conjunction with the other components and how that impacts the overall operation of the system as a whole. These systems include but are not limited to air cooled, water cooled, hot water systems, chilled water systems, VAV systems, steam heating systems and building automation control systems.
• Knowledge of Windows operating systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Must have Journeyman’s license and at least ten years of trade-related work experience, OR
• Any similar combination of education and experience.
• Possess supervisory skills.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
• Must have attended factory training over the course of time in the trade.
• Multiple seminar certifications.
LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Valid Maryland driver's license.
• Active Maryland state-issued HVAC journeyman or masters HVAC license.
