Job Details:
Senior Engineer position within the Transmission/ Distribution Engineering team to perform related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise and leadership to solve design problems under minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to be a leader, manage some to all stages of design, perform a variety of routine and complex tasks to solve power utility design problems, effectively communicate within the design and project management team, and provide technical guidance on unusual or complex problems to comply with applicable standards, such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). This position reports to the Manager of Operations.
Position requirements include:
• Senior Engineer works under minimal supervision and is expected to accurately produce required results without specific direction in a timely fashion. At this level, the Senior Engineer shall be proficient in complex design scope and scheduling, understand transmission and distribution design criteria, be an active mentor to young designers/engineers within the department, and be able to effectively communicate inadequacies in information provided by others and offer recommendations to comply with applicable design and safety codes.
• Be an active leader in the design and evaluation of Client transmission and distribution overhead power lines to ensure that the needs of the Client are met in the most economical and effective manner. Senior Engineer is also expected to conduct accurate and efficient design reviews of work completed by peers in support of company commitment to quality.
• Participate in Overhead Transmission & Distribution Design utilizing PLS-CADD™ software. Models are built from the ground up to minor revisions to existing models. The Senior Engineer shall be proficient in PLS-CADD, show ability/willingness to provide guidance to fellow team members, and effectively troubleshoot complex issues. The Senior should be able to bring full designs to 90%-100% completion with minimal direction; working alongside the Engineer of Record.
• Processes understanding and expertise of RUS and NESC requirements. Prepares and administers IOU, RUS, state, and municipal construction contracts.
• Review engineering plans, specifications and equipment for utility projects. Senior Engineershould be able to effectively communicate with Vendors, Governing Agencies, and Clients with minimal supervision. Provides review and consultation of design specifications and material selection.
• Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
• Performs on-site design and/or construction observation reviews with supervision. Participates in Client meetings with minimal supervision.
• Provides project coordination and manages the day to day deliverables, contract development, and Client management, including schedule and budget, with minimal supervision. May be tasked with approving invoices with approval of Division VP.
• Assist in the continued development of both Company and Client standards to provide guidelines for future project planning and design.
• Ushers final signed-sealed approval and certification of project deliverables with minimal supervision.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
