Middleware Engineer
Description Primary Purpose
Performs software installations and upgrades, administration, operational support and problem resolution for systems based on various middleware technologies.
Primary Responsibilities
• Analyzes, logs, tracks and resolves complex software/hardware matters pertaining to middleware infrastructure applications to meet business needs.
• Performs maintenance and upgrades of existing middleware systems in accordance with organizational standards to maintain operational stability of the system. Investigate and resolve matters of significance.
• Ensures stable performance for middleware infrastructure components, undertakes performance. monitoring/analysis, identifies and resolves bottlenecks.
• Provides technical guidance in areas of expertise to less experienced team members.
• Communicates critical information to management, Service Desk and Operations as necessary.
• Works to accomplish organizational goals that are consistent in supporting both IT and business objectives.
• Understands and demonstrates Core Values.
• Participates in a 24/7 on call support role.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability/Other
• Proficient technical understanding of web and application server technologies required.
• Core technical proficiencies will be: administration of IBM WebSphere Application Server, Apache/IBM HTTP Server and other related technologies.
• Experience in working in Unix/Linux environments.
• Demonstrated understanding of scripting and automation methodology as well as experience with Unix/Linux shell and wsadmin scripting.
• Working knowledge of HTTP/S protocol standards.
• Working knowledge of SSL and SSL certificate management.
• Familiarity with the Java Programming Language and common Java specifications.
• Effective communication skills (verbal and written), able to interact with technical resources as well as with business users.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, multi-task and maintain flexibility.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills to troubleshoot system problems.
Education/Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer or Engineering related discipline preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server 7.x/8.x/8.5.x in a Systems Administrator role.
• Experience with any of the following technologies preferred: IBM WebSphere Extreme Scale ,IBM Integration Bus (or WebSphere Message Broker), IBM DataPower Gateway Appliances, SOLR
• Applicable industry certifications preferred.
