Data Architect
The Data Architect, Microsoft SQL Server is an expert in designing, creating, deploying, and managing an organization’s data architecture on the Microsoft SQL Server platform. The Data Architect defines how the company’s data is stored, consumed, integrated and managed by different data stores, data services, and IT systems, as well as any applications using or processing that data in some way. The Data Architect will contribute to a standard business vocabulary for data entities, express strategic data requirements, outline high level integrated designs to meet these requirements, and align with enterprise strategy and architecture.
The Data Architect is also expected to establish data architecture governance principles, create models of data that enable the implementation of the intended business architecture, create diagrams showing key data entities, and create an inventory of the data needed to implement the architectural vision.
The Data architect will map the systems and interfaces used to manage data, set standards for data management, analyze current state and conceive desired future state, and conceive projects needed to close the gap between current state and future goals.
Responsibilities:
• Interact with Management to determine the organization’s data needs, and translate them into systems design.
• Interact with Development to identify and accommodate technical requirements and establish standards for adherence to industry best practices, company policies, and project standards as they relate to data.
• Design, create, deploy, and manage the organization’s data architecture.
• Define how data will be stored, consumed, integrated, and managed by different data entities and IT systems, as well as any application using or processing that data in some way.
• Map the systems and interfaces used to manage data, set standards for data management, analyze current state and conceive desired future state, and conceive projects needed to close the gap between current state and future goals.
• Institute standards related to data architecture and review development work for compliance with those standards.
Qualifications:
• Four-year degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred
• 10+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server and data modelling
• Experience using Azure cloud data services
• Experience implementing industry best practices as it relates to data architecture and data security
• Up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
• C#, ASP.Net, and object oriented programming
• SQL Server, T-SQL, query optimization tools and techniques, data modelling techniques, and relational database design
• Various Azure data services, such as Azure SQL Database, Table Storage, Azure Search, DocumentDB, etc.
• SQL Server 2005+, including SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, and OLTP/OLAP features
• Data interchange via REST web services
• Ability to quickly identify project delivery risks
• Capable of clearly translating business requirements into systems design
