Architectural Discipline Manager

Functional Role Description:
The Architectural Discipline Manager / Sr. Architect (ADM) comprises a dual role; one as Discipline Manager for the Architectural department and one as Sr. Architect leading the architectural and multidiscipline teams within the organization.  The ADM manages and directs the work of architectural staff and design personnel under minimal supervision in order to complete assigned work on time, within budget, and in accordance with applicable codes/standards and Middough Work Process guidelines. The ADM is responsible for directing an architectural design team in development of small, large, and complex architectural based projects throughout the entire project cycle from initial concept through successful completion. The ADM performs difficult and complex duties requiring independent decisions and extensive related experience. The ADM administers corporate policy as required and develops and implements long range employee development plans and objectives. The ADM develops staffing guidelines with responsibility for all personnel transactions in their assigned department(s). The ADM provides technical leadership and assists architects & engineers in solving complex design problems through state-of-the-art technology and drives all related efforts in the development of, and advancement in technology excellence.

Essential Functions: 
 

  • Candidate must be knowledgeable of pharmaceutical and/or biotech cGMP practices and regulations with emphasis on facilities, production areas, laboratories, and other clean spaces. Experience in bulk chemicals, food and beverage would be helpful, but not required.
  • Leads architectural design analysis by interpreting, organizing, executing and/or coordinating technical and/or design assignments in area(s) of expertise.
  • Develops building technology requirements, designs, specifications and drawings to define the scope of projects.
  • Performs specialized investigations, prepares estimates, performs financial comparisons of alternatives, and develops budgets for approval.
  • Applies advanced architectural theories, concepts, principles and processes to complex design projects.
  • Prepares and/or leads project specifications and reviews progress as drawings are developed and prior to issue for permit and construction.
  • Develops technical specifications, performs technical evaluation of bids, and recommends best value design which meets client requirements for operability, reliability, maintainability and safety.
  • Performs architectural analysis and design on complex or unique problems.
  • Uses Middough work processes to provide quality checks and reviews of all assigned projects.
  • Provides support and input for client proposals, SOQ’s, and presentations.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates and directs department personnel to the successful completion of projects.
  • Manages quality and accuracy standards and reviews and approves completed design plans.
  • Determines technology staffing needs and recruits, hires, develops and motivates discipline team.
  • Takes an active role in support of business development activities.

Skills and Qualifications: 
 

  • 15+ years architectural experience in a consulting organization
  • Bachelor of Architecture degree (BArch or MSArch) from an Accredited US Architectural Program
  • Current Professional Registration in Architecture (DE, NJ, PA and NC preferred)
  • NCARB Certification a plus
  • LEED AP Certification a plus
  • AIA and ISPE membership a plus
  • Construction document preparation including comprehensive construction administration
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards
  • Experience with and general knowledge of contract and liability issues
