Job Details:
My client is a highly regarded MEP Consulting Engineering firm who is actively looking for a Mechanical Engineer who can handle mission critical projects. They can work out of the Philly, Boston, NYC, Baltimore or Northern Virginia office.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Mechanical Engineer
o Serve as the Lead technical mechanical system’s expert on select projects in the Mission Critical Sector. Develop and communicate early mechanical design concepts. Project types include new builds, renovations, fitouts and infrastructure upgrades.
o This is a client facing role with technical discussions, RFP site visits and occasional proposal writing is expected. Lead Mechanical Engineering duties include: planning, execution and day-to-day technical leadership of mechanical systems design and management of mechanical team(s) on projects.
o Provide internal technical leadership for production of design, establishing and enforcing project budgets. Assist the PM in monitoring scope, schedule and deliverables.
o Assist in the development of mechanical department standards.
o Review company processes and provide input.
o As a Lead Mechanical Engineer based out of the New York office, it is expected that the majority of time will be spent in the local area. Travel to other Bala offices is encouraged on an as-needed basis. National travel to project sites is expected and will occur infrequently on an as-needed basis based on the requirements of the project.
- Mentor Staff
- Be a technical resource for the staff.
- Manage/schedule quality control reviews to reinforce technical lessons and company processes.
- Complete internal peer reviews and provide input in multi-discipline page turns, across all offices, to assist in the development of a comprehensive design.
- Manage/schedule page turns prior to all major project deliverables.
- Provide input utilizing sound engineering principles.
- Participate in Workforce Management and Project Assignments
- Review workforce projections and determine how it relates to staffing.
- Work with internal design teams and project managers to establish and monitor mechanical team project budgets
- Identify times and strategies to manipulate design schedules to work with staffing.
- Provide input on individual staff member performance, advancement, and potential.
- Participate in staff performance reviews when appropriate.
- Drive ownership, accountability and culture through the company.
- Interact with partners and executives on a regular basis to further the growth and quality agenda of the firm.
- Marketing / Business Development Support
- Identify potential business opportunities.
- Work with the leadership team to develop fees on complex projects.
- Develop and maintain client relationships.
- Grow the volume and footprint of the office market sectors.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years’ experience in engineering consulting or adjacent field (construction, owner’s representative, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other relevant field
- PE license preferred
- Strong technical writing skills
- Knowledge of building codes
- Strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills
- Knowledge of industry best practices and the latest technologies for mechanical systems design of Mission Critical Facilities
